Try This Beer – R&B Brewing Co. Shake Your Fruity Milkshake IPA
Last week R&B Brewing Company released their new Shake Your Fruity Milkshake IPA. You need to try this beer.
Some people have seen this style of beer make the rounds in the past few months and each one is a bit different. The ‘milkshake IPA’ as they’re starting to be called tend to be intensely fruity similar to a North-East IPA, but the addition of lactose to the brew gives it a sweeter taste and more milky texture than oats or wheat alone will give.
While this isn’t the only milkshake IPA on the market currently – indeed Twin Sails may be the first brewery to bring the style to Vancouver – it’s definitely the most recent. With Shake Your Fruity, the name is clever, and the beer is both tasty and intriguing.
Why the recommendation?
Which brings us to the question: why am I recommending you try this beer?
The milkshake IPA style seems to be a growing trend at the moment and you should expect to see many more breweries trying their hands at one in the coming months. For this reason, trying one now will do two things. First, it’ll let you know if you like the style and want more. Secondly, it gives you a baseline with which to compare to other similar beers.
If this is a trend it’s still early days. The IPA comeback that began last fall brought some new and interesting IPA variations for us to try. We need only look at Steamworks’ Flagship IPA as a sign.
Another reason you should try this beer is because R&B is brewing it in small batches to ensure consistency and quality. This style needs to be consumed as fresh as possible for best results. By the time you read this it may be impossible to find another bottle until they bring out their next batch.
But you know where you’ll definitely find it? At R&B’s tasting room: the Pizza and Ale House on 4th Avenue in Vancouver.
Just like any beer, this one may not be for everyone. But with any trend it’s always a lot of fun to get into it early and watch it develop. Get yourself a bottle (or a glass from the brewery if no bottles are available) and try the Shake Your Fruity Milkshake IPA.
